Howdy all, Freya Day here to update you on Afua's progress of the book of Mer.
Afua is prepping for surgery and her 10-week recovery time. She has limited appearances this year. But while recovering, she'll be hard at work. Her last show before go time is the Weekend of the 11th
I'll get specifics on her medical situation so I can get some work from her before she's indisposed towards the end of the month for another update.

Happy March, everyone. This is Freya Day, Afua's assistant, here to give an update on her progress on the book of mer.
Afua got some devastating health news over the holidays. I thought I'd give her a lil time to deal with that before bugging her for updates. But she gathered herself, and is scheduling a surgery to help remedy the situation. Recovery will be about 10 weeks. But she's motivated to work still. She had this to say:
It took me a while to process, but I think what I'm experiencing makes sense now. Hopefully, after this surgery addresses the issue, I can finally move on with my life in a way I've never done before. When faced with your mortality, you no longer concern yourself with making things perfectly and instead with making things that mean the most to you.
So, with that, I'll give you a peek at some layouts she's pleased with and sharing with us. These are the most promising bits of progress that I've seen. I won't share ALL the pages, but these are pretty cool.
Questions? Just email [email protected] and I will help how I can. Afua has a show in Indiana to keep chipping away at the stolen funds, but she's looking into grants and other options that may speed that process along. She could use your continued encouragement.
I'll share another update at the end of the month! I have a few things to take care of myself, and with Afua at Indiana Comic Con next week, I think that will give her enough time to provide ya with more things to look at. OH, and for anyone wondering, those names on page one are pronounced:
STEL-la MAR-is.
YEM mo YAH and
CHAL CHEE ool TLE QWAY. --- I know. Aztec names are amazingly constructed.
Later gaters!

This is Freya Day, Afua's assistant, here with another update. Afua is just getting over a cold, so she has little to update this week. She has been working on the aesthetic of what she calls her Instigator. She's a villain by classical means, but she's the one who starts things off on the wrong foot in the Book of Mer universe. Afua is also working more with her iPad. She says:
"This is a scribble . I'm tethered to my computer and Adobe Illustrator, which is an awful program for loose and quick sketches, but great for things like type and graphic design. I'm learning to use Adobe Fresco and Procreate, but I'm not proficient yet. This is my first attempt to use it for work, not just practice."
She's a Decon's daughter, an indigenous-black southern country girl who moved to an ALT world NYC in the late 70s. She aspires to be a stylish investigative journalist but resembles a librarian who hits you with a ruler. I want her to be bright, cold, stubborn, strict on everyone but herself, and incredibly off-putting.
Well, that's all I have for now. I'll reach out again soon!
Stay warm!!

Howdy all! Freya Day Afua's Robin to her Batman, here for another Book of Mer update.
Afua sent me this cool image from the Book of Mer today. I thought it would be a nice update.
She's been working on her BIG BAD GUY and ultimate good guy concept for the ending of the entire series arc, but here is a character that you'll see show up along the way. Mira. She doesn't look particularly Mermaid-y, but she has more than one form, I'm told. .
There is not much to say today. I am just wishing you and yours a happy and healthy Thanksgiving. Happy Indigenous People's Month!I look forward to talking with you again the week after next. I'm visiting my family next week, so I'll be out of the office. Afua may pop on and share some things she has been working on, but she also has family in town next week.
